This is something a friend posted on her Google+ account recently. I thought it was such a nice review of Lanzarote! 🙂
“I think I am in love with Lanzarote! No wonder Barbarella moved here!
We are staying in the most resorty sort of place (Puerto del Carmen) and it’s stillastonishingly beautiful! Watching the sunrise over the ocean, all I can hear are birds and waves lapping the shore, with pastel clouds hugging volcano tops and the water all the shades of pastel blue you can imagine.
Last night we went for Tapas on the Strip and even though we saw people heading off to party, our apartment was lovely and quiet. I imagine in July and August it’s more crowded but even then we didn’t see nightclubs at every corner and no music kept us awake
In fact our apartments are gorgeous. We have a few around a quiet pool area with palm trees and flowers. Every morning they bring fresh baked rolls and hang them on a bag outside our door.
One of the reasons the island remains so beautiful is that a local artist and architect Cesar Manrique, hated high rise buildings and Benidorm style resorts and so helped bring in a law against high rises and that means all buildings have to be painted white with woodwork in natural, green or blue. I knew that, but didn’t know just how gorgeous the effect would be – everything looks like it matches – white houses on black volcanic rock and then the blue and green paintwork to highlight it.
