Archive For The “Reviews” Category
I recently bought some cat stuff from a company that I met on Instagram called “Always Whiskered“. This is just a short review about my experience with them.
Ordering from their website was painless and quick. After that there was the wait for my cat items to arrive – since we live in an autonomous Spanish island community, things always take ages to get here, which is, of course, not the fault of the company who ships them!
After about 3 weeks the first item arrived in the post – an adorable little purse with the slogan “Home is where my cat is” – a freebie when your order comes to more than $15.

The second freebie, which I received because my order came to over $30, was this cute little stainless steel cat spoon that sits over the side of your (cat themed!) cup.
Together with the spoon, this lovely 925 silver cat design ring arrived. I had intended for it to be worn on my middle finger, and it was an absolutely perfect fit, see photo below.
My favourite item was the 3D colour changing cat light though! I absolutely adore it, see the video below.
Throughout the whole process of ordering, waiting for my items to arrive, and afterwards, communication with Janice via DM and comments on Always Whiskered’s Instagram feed was amazing. I wasn’t treated just like a customer, but more like a friend and fellow cat lover. All my questions and queries were answered within a few hours.
All in all, I am extremely happy and impressed with Always Whiskered, and I think that many other companies should take a page out of Always Whiskered’s book on how to deal with their customers, because we should all be treated with the same respect and care that Janice gave me.
Still loving this gorgeous 3D colour changing cat gadget. I found that I can also plug it in the mains using one of my Samsung mobile cables, but it also runs on batteries or with a USB cable. Sooo purdy! If you are owned by a cat or three, and as a responsible cat parent, you will know how important it is to have a good cat litter scoop to keep your house from smelling like that of a cat herder.
I have bought several bad ones over the years, but only found out too late that they are not doing their job once I tried them out at home. Well, at least they were cheap!
So here are my thoughts on 3 different ones that I had recently bought, and then the one that I found was the best one in the end.
Poop Scoop #1
Unfortunately, on this scoop the spaces are too wide and a lot of litter and waste falls right through it. Also, the rake-like spikes on the bottom will scratch your cat litter tray, and dirt will collect in said scratches, inviting all kinds of nasty bacteria (spikes shown only partly in the second photo below, after I tried to clip them off, which didn’t quite work!).
Verdict: 1/10 Stars.
Poop Scoop #2
The second one is similar to the one above, but a lot smaller in size. This one has no spikes at the bottom and will not scratch my litter trays. However, the spaces, as in Poop Scoop #1, are much too wide and a lot of kitty waste and good litter alike fall through the gaps too easily. Another issue I have with this one, is that the scooping end is not straight, but has rounded spikes (what is it with those spikes, eh?!), meaning that scraping hardened pee from the bottom of the litter tray will never be as clean and complete as with a scoop that has a straight edge.
Verdict: 3/10 Stars.
Poop Scoop #3
The third scoop is the one I like best. This also had spikes on the bottom, but I managed to clip them off with a pair of plyers, which worked quite well, followed by sanding them down so they disappeared completely (see second photo – spikes be gone!). This one has narrow gaps and most of the waste will easily be collected in it. However, my only gripe with this one is that the spaces are just a little too small and you will collect quite a bit of good, clean litter with it too that will go to waste.
Verdict: 8/10 Stars.
Go for a litter scoop that has: a) no rake-like spikes on the bottom, and b) has gaps not too big nor too small!!! HAPPY SCOOPING!
Someone has been listening to the many voices of pet owners here in Lanzarote, and we now finally have a crematorium for our furbabies! I know this is quite a sad subject, but an important one too. I for one, would love to be able to make my kitties’ passing as loving and luxurious as all the things that I have given them in life.
Pet owners in Lanzarote who lost a beloved pet, have had until now no option to give their deceased pet a decent and dignified send-off. If your pet died at the vets or was found dead in the road, it will be sent to the municipal animal crematorium in Arrecife and chucked in with all the other animals, including roadkill and leftover carcasses from slaughter houses. To a loving pet owner, this is very non-personal and quite horrible really. If you have a garden, then sometimes burial is possible, but many of us live in apartments, and some of us go and find a secluded spot in the country to do a discrete burial – both options are, however, illegal.
Hela Pet Crematorium is in Arrecife, and their cremation service (based on a 5kg animal), including one of their very sweet basic urns, costs around €75, so is very affordable to most people.
Having two 18 year old tabby boys makes me aware every day that their clocks are ticking and we don’t have that much time left together, and I am glad that when the time comes, I now have the option to see them off to the Rainbow Bridge with the dignity the deserve…
I wrote an article on Canna-Pet’s natural cannabinoids in September 2016, documenting how they helped my boy Spider with his ear tumour and kidney disease, and thought I’d write an update on how he is doing now.
Spider has taken Canna-Pet capsules for a year now, and the adenocarcinoma that our vet excised from his ear a year ago has shown no signs of growing back, even though we were told that it “might be back in a year or so”. On testing his kidneys, his values have actually improved, which is something of a miracle in a cat that has been in kidney failure since March 2015! I think this is in part due to him taking Canna-Pet, but will probably also be helped by a supplement called Renafood that I give him once a day.
Since on Canna-Pet, Spider has become more active again – behaving like a much younger cat! See the video below of him jumping after his favourite toy, the ping pong ball. 🙂
Spider’s fur has also become so very soft, he is much more cuddly and vocal with me than ever, and the loud crying fits in the middle of the night happen only occasionally now.
In conclusion, I am very pleased with the results, and would recommend Canna-Pet to anyone who is desperate to find something that works, where nothing has helped before, to give their cats or dogs that are suffering from cancer, diabetes, allergies, anxiety or as pain relief, to name just a few.
