Triple Kitty Bunk DIY Project

I saw a photo of a triple cat bunk bed the other day and decided that I wanted to build my own for my 3 furbabies.

These are the basic instructions and what you need to make this yourself, in case you would like to have a go too. 🙂

You´ll need:

Triple Kitty Bunk

The Tools:
Saw (Hand saw if you´re brave, Jigsaw or Circular – the latter is the best, but I only have a jigsaw, so I used that)
Electric Drill (easier to get the screws in the wood if you pre-drill the holes)
Screwdriver(s)
Hammer
Screws: Sizes 3.5 x 25 (48 pieces) and 3 x 12 (64 pieces)
Small Metal Brackets: 18 pieces

The Wood:
I got the wood from Bricoking Arrecife and they sell them in pine planks of 2400mm length (2.40 meters).  I was opting for the cheapest and got the 70x10mm and you will need 3 of these (approx. 5.50m altogether) –  you will need to cut/saw this 6x for the front and back at 56cm width and 6x for the sides at 36cm width.

The 4 corner posts are 30×30 mm wood and the height I cut them to is 88cm but you can, of course, make them any height you want.

An MDF Sheet 1cm thick – Bricoking sell these in 1200x600mm size (you need one of those), and you will need to cut 3x size 49.5 x 36cm for the bed bases.

THE WORK:

Saw/Cut the wood as above. Then take a look at the photos and you should be able to figure out what to do with all the pieces and you will have the frame put together in no time using the larger (25mm) screws.

Once you have done this, you can paint the frame in your chosen colour, add stencils/stamps and varnish it.  Once it´s dry, add the brackets (see photo) using the small (12mm) screws.  The brackets are where the MDF base of each of the 3 beds will sit on.

Insert each MDF base board onto the brackets inside the frame – you might need to force it a little if your dimensions aren´t totally exact and I used a hammer to ease each one into place (be careful not to break the MDF where it needs to be pushed past the brackets), followed by securing each base board to the brackets with the small screws from the underside as well.

Stick felt stickers to the bottom of each post if you have tiles or floorboards, so moving the bed across the floor won´t be too noisy or scratch your floors!

Lastly: Add bedding and add …. Cats! 🙂
